Basilicata Coast to Coast

The untouched region of Basilicata stars in this music-infused, comedy road movie from Italian actor-turned-writer/director Rocco Papaleo. Winner of Best First Feature at the 2010 Italian Golden Globes and Best New Director at the 2011 David di Donatello Awards.

When Nicola (Papaleo) enters his unassuming band in a music festival on the other side of Basilicata, he comes up with the idea of walking there in 10 days – partly as a publicity stunt and partly as an opportunity to bond. His motley crew: sweet-natured Salvatore (Paolo Briguglia), hipster ex-TV celeb, Rocco (Alessandro Gassman), and amiable mute Franco (singer Max Gazze in his screen debut). Assigned to document the adventure is apprehensive local journalist Tropea (Giovanna Mezzogiorno).

Less
