Documentary traces the history of American band Big Star - massively influential, highly revered, but criminally overlooked in their heyday. In the early 1970s the band fused the sounds of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Byrds with their own unique songwriting style, influencing the alternative music era of the ‘80s.
Despite their eventual impact on the likes of R.E.M., The Replacements and countless others, Big Star were thwarted by their labels Stax and Columbia at the time, who didn’t get the band, or how to market them. Their classic albums #1 Record and Radio City were destined only for cult status, the band breaking up due to frustration with their record label before even titling their next album, known as Third. With their catalogue reissued to acclaim in the 90s, the band reformed with a new lineup, finding a wider audience with their own shows and covers of their songs, including In the Street, used as the theme for That '70s Show.
