Moral drama set in contemporary Tunisia, fusing fiction with documentary as it focuses on a young man who fantasises about leaving his muddled society – currently in the limbo of dictatorship and democracy after the Jasmine Revolution – for a better life in Europe.
DVD salesman Abdallah becomes increasingly frustrated by an inability to realise a fulfilling existence. After meeting the Dutch tourist Anna, he starts dreaming of a better life in Europe, or Die Welt, as his father calls the Promised Land on the other side of the Mediterranean.
