Gaston Kaboré’s Adaptation of an African fable about a mute and memory-less orphan boy. Winner of the César (French Oscar) for Best French Language Film.
"Told in the rhythms and tone of traditional African storytelling, Kaboré’s film begins with a traveller discovering an unconscious boy on the plains. Mute and with no memory, the boy is taken to a village where he’s raised with love and joy by members of the Mossi tribe. As the boy, now known as Wend Kuuni (‘God’s Gift’) slowly rediscovers his voice, Kaboré elegantly shows how traditional values can, and must, play a role in addressing contemporary African concerns."
