Chuck (Adam Sandler) and Larry (Kevin James) are damned decent firefighters. Larry’s a salt-of-the-earth widower, Chuck enjoys life as a single man. After saving Chuck's life, Larry calls in a returned favour by asking him to pretend to be his gay partner in order to receive a government benefit.
When an overzealous bureaucrat becomes suspicious, the new couple's arrangement becomes a citywide issue and goes from confidential to front-page news. Forced to improvise as love-struck newlyweds, Chuck and Larry fumble through a charade of domestic bliss.
Happy Gilmore director (Duggan) is backing up from the recent, terrible, The Benchwarmers. But amongst the six screenwriters are Alexander Payne Jim Taylor (Election, Sideways), who did the last re-write.
