Immersive docu-drama providing a look into the lives of a family of brown bears of Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, narrated by Marion Cotillard. Filmmaker Guillaume Vincent spent 500 days filming, following in particular a four-year-old cub as he starts out on his own amid a community of hundreds.
There are 3D and 2D versions of the film. Says Vincent: "I chose to shoot in 3D because I desired to truly immerse the audience. I wanted to give the viewers an opportunity to get as close to the bears as possible, and 3D allowed us to do this from both a visual and emotional perspective."
The documentary was co-scripted by Yves Paccalet, a French ecologist who served as scriptwriter for Jacques Cousteau; shot by key crew responsible for the underwater scenes in Disney's 2010 documentary Oceans, and captured in 3D by stereographer Manning Tillman - the man behind Avatar and Life of Pi.
