One of Charlie Chaplin's most enduring classics, and also his last outing as the Little Tramp, Modern Times puts our hero to work as a giddily inept factory employee who is driven insane by the monotony of his job. The silent comedy is a comment on both the struggles to survive in a modern, industrialised world and the financial hardship of the Great Depression. Features the song Smile, written by Chaplin, and co-stars Paulette Goddard (Chaplin's third wife) as the gamine the Tramp falls for.
