In 2014, Ukrainian surgeon Serhiy enlists to fight Russian military forces in the Donbass region, where he is captured by enemy soldiers. After his release, he returns to his comfortable middle-class apartment, still suffering from the trauma of his experiences.
'Selected for the Venice International Film Festival, Reflection follows a Ukrainian surgeon, Serhiy, dealing with the horror of what he witnessed and experienced as a prisoner of war. Upon his return home, haunted by his memories, he struggles to readjust to normal civilian life and works on rebuilding his relationship with his teenage daughter and her mother. Set in 2014, when Russia invaded eastern Ukraine, Vasyanovych's beautifully composed frames contrast with the brutality of war and the disorientation of Serhiy's traumatised emotional state.'
