A magical land requires the help of the most unlikeliest of heroes, a grumpy ogre named Shrek, in this DreamWorks animated fairy tale satire.
In a faraway land called Duloc, a heartless ruler, the diminutive Lord Farquaad, has banished all the fairy tale beings from the land so it can be as boring as he is. And then there's Shrek, a disgusting green ogre who lives in a swamp. One day, he finds that all the kingdom's banished fairtale creatures have ended up in his swamp. To get rid of them, Shrek agrees with Lord Farquaad that he will find Princess Fiona and bring her back to the kingdom so that Farquaad can marry her. And so his adventure begins...
Shrek was the very first film to win Best Animated Feature at the Academy Awards when the category was first introduced in 2001.
