Towelhead

13-year-old Jasira is an Arab-American girl, whose mother sends her to Houston to live with her strict Lebanese father. Faced with her burgeoning womanhood and confronting racism at school, she finds solace in her neighbours Mr. Vuoso, an Army reservist, and Melina, a meddling expectant mother. Her boyfriend, Thomas, is black, which causes more than a few problems with her uncomfortable father. Jasira comes to realize that the adults are just as lost as she is.
