Tsotsi (name of the main character, meaning 'gangster' in South African slang) is a crime drama following 6 days in the life a young gang leader in Johannesburg. It's often compared to Brazil's City Of God for all the bells & whistles in terms of camera whiz-bangery, and the story's emotional pull. It also showcases SA's hip-hop inspired Kwaito music.
Tsotsi (first time actor Chweneyagae) is a hardened, violent criminal who, after a falling out with his own gang, shoots an affluent woman and steals her car. Whilst driving away he realizes he has also unwittingly kidnapped the woman's baby. Unable to leave the child, he takes it with him and attempts to care for it.
