A pie-centric, semi-independent film about a woman trapped in a life from which she dreams of escape. Jenna's (Russell) secret ambition is to save enough money from her waitressing job to leave her overbearing and controlling husband (Sisto). Looks like a main-stream 'The Good Girl'.
Jenna is a sharp, sassy woman with a gift for making unusual pies. The recipes are inspired by the trials, tribulations and circumstances of her life (There's an "I hate my husband" pie). An unwanted pregnancy changes the course of events giving her an unexpected confidence via a romance with her dashing gynecologist (Fillion).
Actor/writer/director Adrienne Shelley was tragically murdered in 2006, prior to the film's premiere at Sundance, in New York. She described 'Waitress' as a "love letter" to her daughter Sophie (who also stars).
