Altered Dates: Inherent Vice pulled, “loud noisy rubbish” tops box office

It’s not always smooth sailing when it comes to releasing movies in New Zealand. For one reason or another, films fall out of the release schedule, sometimes causing consternation and disappointment (if sometimes resulting in nary a whisper). Unfortunately, since it placed third on Our Most Anticipated Films of 2015 list, we’re super bummed that Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice now has “Undated” status. You never know, we may get to see it on a big screen, but the prospect don’t look good. Watch the trailer and see what you’re missing out on:

Two Westerns move to “Undated 2015” status – infamously troubled Natalie Portman-starrer Jane Got a Gun and another directorial/starring effort from Tommy Lee Jones, The Homesman.

Pierce Brosnan, Owen Wilson and Lake Bell action thriller The Coup, about an American family traveling abroad when a coup occurs in the country they’re in, has been retitled No Escape (which will spare those calling it The Coupe from blushes)

Kate Winslet period drama A Little Chaos and comedic math nerd coming-of-age tale X + Y have moved from their March 26th release date, leaving that congested week to Will Ferrell’s Get Hard and the school holiday bait of Infinitely Polar Bear, Shaun the Sheep and CinderellaA Little Chaos now opens March 12 and  X + Y  March 19.

And while this is a bit of a delay from its earlier March release date, it makes plenty of sense for Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension to move to October 22 – perfect timing for Halloween.

We dug Kingsman: The Secret Service, giving it a four-star review and calling it “an utterly outrageous, logic-defying, live-action cartoon of a film, a riotous romp”. Not everyone agreed, for instance Flicks user JANQUARRIE who labelled it “Loud noisy full of rubbish & foul language”. It’ll be interesting to see how this ultra-violent, and pleasantly profane film plays to older audiences there for a dapper Colin Firth, but not necessarily its other button-pushing elements.

While we’ve got your attention, here’s the most-viewed trailer on Flicks this week – those bright lil’ buggers known as The Minions.
