Attend Short Film Talks With Top NZ Filmmakers

Y’all know that Show Me Shorts is taking over New Zealand this November, right?

Well, as part of their plan for national cinematic domination, the Show Me Shorts film festival and Yoobee School of Design are hosting Short Film Talks in Auckland and Wellington.

Proudly supported by the NZ Film Commission, these talks are open to anyone interested in short films, hearing and discussing short filmmaking with top filmmakers, and watching short films. It’s also FREE!

Auckland panellists include:

Director/writer Matthew Saville joined by producer Julia Parnell, whose short film Dive will be making its NZ premiere at this year’s Show Me Shorts Film Festival. A dark surrealist comedy, Dive follows a man’s quest to regain his life after hitting rock bottom.

Director Abigail Greenwood joined by writer / producer Kate Prior, to discuss their debut short film Eleven. Screened at the Berlin International Film Festival 2014, Eleven is a poignant film that explores the challenges of peer pressure and childhood betrayal.

Director / writer / producer Han Yu, who will be travelling from China to share his short film Home. A pseudo-documentary portraying ten years of changes within a family through a hole in the wall, Home will be making its world premiere this year at Show Me Shorts Film Festival.

Wellington panellists include:

Director / co-writer Wendell Cooke, whose black comedy Loner was short-listed by the NZFC from over 200 projects under their Fresh Shorts category. Centred around a socially-awkward man struggling to find a friend willing to sign his gun licence application, Loner will be making its world premiere at this year’s Show Me Shorts Film Festival.

Director / co-writer / actor Charlie Bleakley, whose road-trip comedy Coconut has received rave reviews for its portrayal of a bromance put to the test. Coconut is Charlie’s first collaboration with close friend Cohen Holloway, and has achieved both a major film festival screening and NZ Writers Guild Awards nomination.

Director / writer Riwia Brown joined by animator Phill Simmonds to discuss In the Rubbish Tin, a creative collaboration that emerged from their combined years of experience and industry recognition. Based on a short story, In the Rubbish Tin is a powerful animation about an abandoned girl and her imaginary world.
