Early Batman Choices, ‘Legend of Zelda’ Movie Pitch and More Movie News
Although the script has yet to be written, suggestions are already buzzing around as to who will be the new Bruce Wayne in the recently-announced sequel to Man of Steel, which will prominently feature The Batman.
The Hollywood Reporter has gotten whispers of who is on the watch list, stating that the preference is for an older Wayne in his 40s. Here are the top contenders:
Josh Brolin
At age 46, this aged ass-kicker is the safest bet Warner Bros. has on the list, having recently featured in Gangster Squad, MIB3, True Grit and Spike Lee’s upcoming Oldboy remake.
Ryan Gosling
Having pleased audiences with a vast array of hit films like The Place Beyond the Pines, Crazy, Stupid, Love and Drive while pissing others off with Only God Forgives, The Gos has earned his share of lovers and haters (the former more than the latter). At age 32, he isn’t exactly the older gent they’re looking for, but maybe he’ll be able to extend his acting range.
Joe Manganiello
In his mid-30s, Manganiello is a left-field choice. More of a TV star (Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, True Blood), he has a history of stunt work that will do him some favours. Plus he was Big Dick Richie in Magic Mike, so there’s that.
Richard Armitage
Largely known for his role as Thorin (AKA that badass dwarf) in The Hobbit, Armitage has proven that he can morn the loss of something dear to him while looking like a fella you really don’t want to mess with. At age 41, we’d be totally fine with him putting on the cape.
Max Martini
You most likely know Mac Martini as the father of the Australian douchebag Jaeger pilot in Pacific Rim. As well as some credible TV work, Martini is a solid 43-year-old choice, and would be a massive breakout role for him.
Matthew Goode
With eyes that pierce the soul (Stoker), Goode would be a *ahem* good choice. Having played a rich, intellectual ‘superhero’ before in Watchmen, Zack Snyder would be at familiar grounds with the 35-year-old.
‘Jack Reacher’ Director to Helm Next ‘Mission: Impossible’
Christopher McQuarrie must have had a hell-of-a-good time making Tom Cruise look like an impenetrable badass in Jack Reacher, so much so that he’s willing to do it again with the fifth instalment of Mission: Impossible. McQuarrie was the leading choice to take the directing torch from Brad Bird after the excellent Ghost Protocol, but nothing had been confirmed.
Then there’s this tweet:
Mission: Accepted

…later confirmed by this tweet:

Watch: ‘Legend of Zelda’ Movie Pitch
A few years ago, troubled animation studio Imagi (TMNT, Astro Boy) made a 90-second pitch for a potential movie based on Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda. SlashFilm got the low-down on the clip, which features an artistic direction not far off from Imagi’s signature style.
Have a look and judge for yourself:
No ‘Age of Ultron’ for Loki
Tom Hiddleston has confirmed that Loki will not appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Director Joss Whedon kinda-sorta crushed the collective dreams of Loki’s fanbase already, but in case you needed to be double-y sure, you can read Entertainment Weekly’s chat with Hiddleston.
Yes, it’s sad, but there’s no need to be a mewling quim about it…
