Big Screen Symposium: Calling all screen industry members!
In just under two weeks Script to Screen and J & A Productions will be hosting one of the most important industry events of the year – the Big Screen Symposium 2014. This annual event is the only event of its kind in New Zealand bringing together the entire film community in one room for inspiration, information and discussion. It is a chance to network, connect and re-establish relationships with fellow storytellers within the NZ screen community.
This year the Big Screen Symposium 2014 will celebrate ‘The Power of Voice’. How do we break through the clutter to speak with a distinctive voice and be heard?
This year is set to be another great weekend, with sessions from inspiring international speakers including award-winning Scottish actor, writer and director Peter Mullan (The Magdelene Sisters, 2002); leading US indie film producer Alix Madigan, who produced Academy Award-nominated Winter’s Bone which launched Jennifer Lawrence’s career in 2011; U.S, legendary television writer Lee Aronsohn – co-creator of Two and a Half Men and writer on sitcoms including The Love Boat, Murphy Brown, Cybill, Grace Under Fire and The Big Bang Theory, to name a few.
In terms of local talent, we hear from Oscar-nominated writer, director and actor Taika Waititi, Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, and producer Chelsea Winstanley about marketing and distributing of What We Do in the Shadows; leading producer Matthew Metcalfe who has produced 9 feature films and over NZ$100m worth of production gives a financing masterclass; NZ playwright, writer and director of four feature films including Māori action epic The Dead Lands, Toa Fraser presents a directing masterclass, among many others.
The two-day programme featuring 20 sessions and over 40 speakers is said to leave you informed and inspired:
