Borderlands trailer and release date – NZ
The beloved loot ‘n’ shoot video game comes to the big screen, courtesy of Hostel director Eli Roth. Will it avoid the video game adaptation curse? Hmm. Good question, that.
When is Borderlands being released in New Zealand?
Borderlands blasts its way into New Zealand cinemas on August 8.

What is Borderlands about?
Based on the video game franchise developed by Gearbox Software, Borderlands finds us on the barren, lawless world of Pandora (no, not that one) where a team of mercenaries, outlaws, and other ne’er-do-wells form an uneasy alliance in order to track down the missing daughter of Atlas, a terrifying… crime boss? Warlord? Details are sketchy.
As it happens, the fate of the universe hangs in the balance, and our hard luck heroes are gonna have to shoot a whole bunch of alien critters and vicious thugs to win the day. Honestly, we’ve played those games a bunch and couldn’t tell you the plot at gunpoint, so that may very well be faithful to the original.
The cast of Borderlands
Australia’s greatest actor Cate Blanchett is clearly having a ball as enigmatic outlaw Lilith; Kevin Hart is the mercenary Roland; Jack Black is the voice of robot Claptrap; Edgar Ramírez is Atlas; Ariana Greenblatt is tween demolitions expert Tiny Tina; the towering Florian Munteanu is Krieg, her muscle; Gina Gershon is Mad Moxxi; and Jamie Lee Curtis is Dr. Patricia Tannis; and Haley Bennett, Bobby Lee, Olivier Richters, Janina Gavankar, Cheyenne Jackson, Charles Babalola, Benjamin Byron Davis, Steven Boyer, Ryann Redmond, and Harry Ford are also on board.
Plus, Penn Jillette has a cameo as a preacher. No sign of Teller, but if he had a voice role, how could we tell?

Why we’re excited about Borderlands
Well, Eli Roth is pretty hit and miss, TBH, but the prospect of Cate as an intergalactic bad ass is certainly enticing. This Galadriel is a more convincing action heroine than the other one, is what we’re saying.
