Chinese filmmaker to attend international premiere in Show Me Shorts Auckland
Chinese filmmaker Yu Han will be in attendance to celebrate the international premiere of his short film. 家 (Home) will screen as part of Show Me Shorts Film Festival on Saturday 8 November at Auckland’s Capitol Cinema.
The screening is one of a number of New Zealand and world premieres taking place during the three-week festival at 20 cinemas around the country. Local films up for their first outing include: Snowmen, Damien, Bars and Tone, Uphill, Loner, and Loser Cruiser.
家 (Home) is a unique film that literally peers into a hole in the wall of one small apartment, recording ten years of change, as a family grows and the world changes. Festival director Gina Dellabarca calls it “One of the most visually unique and impressive films in our programme. Home is unlike anything else I have seen, from the hundreds of films we watched this year. I look forward to discussing the film with Yu at our Short Film Talks event.”
Han makes the trip to Auckland from Shan Xi in China, and this will be his first visit to New Zealand. He will take part in networking and professional development opportunities during the festival. He will also explore Auckland, and meet with representatives from the local film industry, Film Auckland and the Asia NZ Foundation.
Jacki van Beek, whose film Uphill also screens for the first time during Show Me Shorts says: “Uphill was made in Arthur’s Pass with cast and crew coming from Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown, Dunedin and Invercargill. We’re really pleased to be premiering in a NZ festival that tours right around the country – Matakana to Stewart Island!”
Show Me Shorts kicks off with the Rialto Channel Opening Night & Awards Ceremony at The Civic on Thursday 6 November. This is the big night out for New Zealand’s short film community, with awards winners announced and the top films screened. Limited tickets are available from TicketMaster.
Show Me Shorts is New Zealand’s only Academy Awards-accredited film festival. It plays in 20 cinemas across New Zealand from 6-23 November. The international premiere of 家 (Home) takes place at 8:30pm on Saturday 8 November at Capitol Cinema, along with the world premieres for Uphill, Loner, and Loser Cruiser. Yu Han will also participate in the Short Film Talk event hosted by Yoobee School of Design at 6pm on Tuesday 11 November.
