Hitchcock classic in 3D announced for NZIFF 2013
The New Zealand International Film Festival today announced two classic Hitchcock thrillers, North by Northwest and Dial M for Murder 3D, to screen as part of the 2013 programme.
Dial M for Murder 3D, starring Grace Kelly, was released in 1954 and was Hitchcock’s first and only use of the 3D technology. It was released just as the popularity of 3D was waning. A 4K restoration of the original film negative has been completed by Warner Brothers.
“Rarely shown in 3D anywhere at the time of its original release this high definition restoration is worth the nearly 60 year wait. Grace Kelly never looked more perfect.” says Gosden.
North by Northwest, originally released in 1959, stars Cary Grant as the advertising executive who is caught up in a case of mistaken identity and Government conspiracy, with co-stars James Mason and Eva Marie Saint.
“Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest is a masterpiece of popular cinema and simply one of the most entertaining thrillers ever made. We think it most unlikely that you’ve ever seen it looking better than it does now, filling the giant screen in this fabulous new 4K restoration,” says NZIFF Director Bill Gosden.
NZIFF will begin in Auckland (18 July – 4 August), open in Wellington one week later (26 July – 11 August), then Christchurch (1 – 18 August) and Dunedin (8 – 25 August) before continuing to travel around New Zealand screening in Gore, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Nelson, Tauranga, Masterton, Hawke’s Bay and New Plymouth.
NZIFF programmes will be available online and around town from June 25 in Auckland, and June 28 in Wellington. For Festival updates visit www.nziff.co.nz.
