How to watch Carry-On in New Zealand
Not to be confused with the venerable and smutty British comedy franchise (here, refresh your memory) this new thriller from genre gun Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, The Shallows) makes a hero out of a rookie TSA agent. Which, frankly, seems more far-fetched than Sid James being a sex machine.

Carry-On
What is Carry-On about?
There’s not much to go on, frankly. All we know is that a “mysterious stranger” (their words, not ours) blackmails a young TSA agent, Ethan Kopek, to let a package slip through security and onto a Christmas Day flight, and things proceed from there. It’s probably a bomb. Or a plague. Or a plague bomb. Look, many fine thrillers have been spun from thinner material. It’s all in the execution, and our man Jaume is one of the best when it comes to this kind of thing.
The cast of Carry-On
Taron Egerton of Kingsman: The Secret Service is Ethan Kopek, and Jason Bateman is the Mysterious Traveler. Plus Logan Marshall-Green, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Dean Norris, Sinqua Walls, Josh Brener, Joe Williamson, Curtiss Cook, Tonatiuh Elizarraraz, and Gil Perez-Abraham round out the ensemble, which strikes us as exactly the mix of fresh faces and veteran character actors you want for this stripe of pulpy thriller.

Why we’re excited about Carry-On
Carry-On looks like it ticks all the right boxes for a perfect Friday night in. Solid cast, high concept, seasoned genre director at the helm, ticking clock, maximum stakes, minimum attention to realism…green lights across the board. Sure, we love being snooty cineastes around these parts, but this kind of meat ‘n’ potatoes pulp thriller is not beneath us. We’ll be cueing this up on day one, we gurantee.
