How to watch Dope Thief in New Zealand
Dope Thief is streaming in New Zealand on Apple TV+ from March 14, 2025, starting with a double episode premiere, and new episodes dropping weekly thereafter.
What is Dope Thief about?
Based on the 2009 debut novel of the same name by Dennis Tafoya, Dope Thief follows lifelong friends and petty criminals Ray and Manny, who have finally hit upon a sure-fire scam. They pose as DEA agents and rob low level drug dealers, knowing that their cover and their victims’ relative lack of power mean there’ll be no blowback. But, as crime fiction fans know, sure-fire schemes are rarely sure-fire. After they rip off the wrong guy, they find themselves suddenly hundreds of thousands of dollars richer, and with someone much heavier and unforgiving on their trail, determined to extract a fatal amount of retribution.
The cast of Dope Thief
Brian Tyree Henry, who recently voiced Megatron in Transformers One, is Ray, with Idris Debrand as Teen Ray and Bentley Cooper as Young Ray; Wagner Moura is Manny; Marin Ireland is Mina; former Star Trek: Voyager captain Kate Mulgrew is Theresa Bowers; Amir Arison is Mark Nader; the mighty Ving Rhames is Bart; Dustin Nguyen is Son Pham, and if you’re old enough to remember him in 21 Jump Street, congrats on making it this far; Nesta Cooper is Michelle; Kaci Walfall is Marietta; Liz Caribel is Sherry; Will Pullen is Marchetti; Kiều Chinh is Xuan ‘Grandma’ Pham; Phong Le is Duy; Emma Lewis is Izzy Pham; and Jaba Keh is Lewis Pham.

Why we’re excited about Dope Thief
Well, the basic set up has cobwebs on it, but the source novel received plenty of critical praise and that cast is pretty tight. We’re always up for a gritty modern noir, and Dope Thief looks like it ticks all the right boxes.
