Glass Onion coming to NZ cinemas a month before its Netflix release
Daniel Craig returns as Kentucky-fried super-sleuth Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion, filmmaker Rian Johnson’s sequel to Oscar-nominated whodunnit Knives Out.
As you might know, the sequel is streaming on Netflix from December 23. However, following the tremendous reception the film received overseas, it will also enjoy a one-week-only Aotearoa theatrical run from November 23.
Joining Craig for this Greece-set mystery are new faces Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Leslie Odom Jr. and Madelyn Cline. See them acting suss in the trailer below.
So what’s the early critical word on Johnson’s latest whodunnit? Slashfilm writes: “Every scene is loaded with lightning-sharp wit coupled with a genuinely engrossing mystery.” Vulture adds: “[It’s] bigger and more precisely designed than Knives Out, but what makes it a more satisfying movie is that it sits with its characters more rather than immediately showing off their decay.”
Arguably, the most important quote about the film comes from Johnson himself: “These movies are made to thrill audiences, and I can’t wait to feel the energy of the crowd as they experience Glass Onion. Between this and the release on Netflix in December, I’m excited that audiences around the world will be able to enjoy the film!”
