What is Holland about?
Set in the titular midwestern town, a quaint little burg modeled after someone’s idea of an 18th century Dutch hamlet (hence the name), Holland follows teacher Nancy Vandergroot, mother to young Harry, wife to model train-obsessed optometrist Fred. And just pleased as punch about her life in a place that looks like a slightly oversaturated Norman Rockwell print.
Except…she’s starting to think Fred may be harboring a dark secret. He sure does take a lot of trips to out-of-town work conferences, and just what does he keep in his office safe? Enlisting the help of local high school teacher Dave, our picture perfect protagonist is determined to find out—but there’s a chance it’s all in her head.
This one comes to us from director Mimi Cave, who also helmed the satirical cannibal comedy, Fresh, a couple years back.

Why we’re excited about Holland
It seems like not a week goes by without Nicole Kidman cropping up in yet another adult-orientated suburban drama, probably psychosexual in nature, and we are here for it. Mimi Cave demonstrated a dexterous flair for dark satire with Fresh, and we’re keen to see if she can repeat the trick here. Of course, it could all turn out to be an insipid David Lynch pastiche, but we hope for the best.
