How to watch Rebel Ridge in New Zealand
Green Room and Hold the Dark director Jeremy Saulnier brings us what looks to be a deeply satisfying riff on the old First Blood formula.
How to watch Rebel Ridge in New Zealand
Rebel Ridge is streaming in New Zealand exclusively on Netflix from September 6.
What is Rebel Ridge about?
Nice, normal guy Terry Richmond is on his way to post bail for his cousin when his money is unjustly (but legally) seized by the local cops in the sleepy Southern town of Shelby Springs. As it turns out, our hero is not just a nice, normal guy; he’s a nice, normal former Marine, and up with this he will not put. Expect a slow burn thriller as Terry gradually figures out that his legal options are limited and eventually decides to crack some skulls—probably in excruciatingly gory detail, judging by Saulnier’s past work.
The cast of Rebel Ridge
Aaron Pierre (The Underground Railroad, M. Night Shyamalan’s Old, and the upcoming Mufasa: The Lion King) plays our hero, Terry; Don Johnson, who really makes a meal out these racist hick roles, is Chief Sandy Burnne; AnnaSophia Robb (Words on Bathroom Walls) is local county clerk and ally Summer McBride; David Denman is Officer Evan Marston; Emory Cohen is Officer Steve Lann; Steve Zissis is Elliot; Zsane Jhe is Officer Jessica Sims; Dana Lee is Mr. Liu; and James Cromwell is the local judge, which will make a change of pace for the frequently-arrested actor and activist, as he’s normally sitting in the dock.

Why we’re excited about Rebel Ridge
Jeremy Saulnier’s a gun of a director, Aaron Pierre is currently poised to break wide as a star, and the prospect of watching the latter dish out some rough justice to a whole police department’s worth of corrupt and racist cops is simply irresistible. Plus, Rebel Ridge has been getting some excellent reviews, with IGN for instance calling it “a crackerjack mainstream action thriller as politically resonant as it is breathlessly suspenseful.”
