The Handmaid’s Tale season six is streaming in New Zealand on Neon from April 8, 2025.
What is The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 about?
Based on the acclaimed novel of the same title by literary legend Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is speculative fiction (repeat, fiction) set in a future US suffering under the heel of a fascist theocratic state. Renamed the Republic of Gilead, it’s a nightmarish place where fertile women are kept as slaves called Handmaidens, hence the title.
This final season sees rebel Handmaid June Osborne recommit to overthrowing the government of Gilead, while her husband Luke, who fled to Canada, joins the resistance along with Moira Strand, June’s best friend from college. Meanwhile high-ranking Serena Waterford works to reform the regime from within. It’s all coming to a head, but we’ll be returning to Gilead before long when the spin-off series in the works, based on Atwood’s sequel The Testaments, comes our way a little down the track.
