How to watch The Pitt in New Zealand

One of the most exciting new shows of the year is kind of a thowback to a lot of great series of yesterday – it’s a good, old-fashioned medical drama done in a propulsive, up-to-the-minute style. Welcome to The Pitt.

How to watch The Pitt in New Zealand

The Pitt is streaming in New Zealand on NEON from January 10, with the first two episodes dropping immediately, and one episode a week thereafter.

What is The Pitt about?

Fifteen episodes, fifteen hours, one shift (as the promos tell us), set in the horribly under-resourced, horrifically busy emergency room of the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital, nicknamed the Pitt. We kick off at 7am, when head medico Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch is handed a platoon of medical students and interns to induct into the ways of the ER world, and go from there. Think metropolitan M*A*S*H or Scrubs with no jokes and you’re on the right page.

The cast of The Pitt

Noah Wyle is Dr. Michael “Robby” Rabinavitch, and if you remember him as the new kid the first episode of ER, get your prostate checked; Tracy Ifeachor is Dr. Collins; Patrick Ball is the sarky and singularly brilliant Dr. Langdon; Supriya Ganesh is Dr. Mohan; Fiona Dourif is single-mum-with-a-past Dr. McKay, and you may remember her dad played a doctor in Deadwood; Taylor Dearden is fresh-faced noob Dr. King; Isa Briones is prickly and ambitious Dr. Santos; Gerran Howell is Nebraska country boy Whitaker; Shabana Azeez, recently seen in Birdeater, is keen-to-impress prodigy Javad; and Katherine LaNasa is head nurse Dana Evans, who keeps the whole ball of wax rolling.

Why we’re excited about The Pitt

Well, look. your humble scribe has seen the first 10 episodes and the series is a banger: fast paced, deftly written, and directly confronting the many, many problems the US health system faces. It’s very much a show about right now. You should definitely add this one to your viewing roster.
