How to watch Tuesday in Australia

Death comes for us all sooner or late, but rarely in the form of a talking macaw.

How to watch Tuesday in Australia

Tuesday will be available to rent or buy in Australia from January 15, 2025.

What is Tuesday about?

Written and directed by Croatian filmmaker Daina Oniunas-Pusic, here making her feature film debut, Tuesday is a sort of magical realist meditation on mortality that sees single mother Zora struggling to cope with the imminent death of her terminally ill, wheelchair-bound only child, Tuesday. When death does arrive it comes, as we noted above, in the form of a talking macaw. It’s that sort of film.

Being a protective mother, Zora prompty blatters the bird with a heavy book and eats it, which should take care of the problem. But with death out of the picture, nobody and nothing can shuffle off this mortal coil, a plot wrinkle that puts us in mind of the Terry Pratchett novel, Reaper Man. With countless suffering normally fatal injuries but unable to escape their pain, Zora’s inability to let go is now much more than just a personal issue.

The cast of Tuesday

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is Zora, and apparently delivers a stunning performance; Irish actor Lola Petticrew is the stricken Tuesday; Nigerian-British actor (and former national kickboxing champion, trivia fans) Arinzé Kene is the voice of Death; Leah Harvey is Nurse Billie; and Ellie James, Taru Devani, Jay Simpson, Justin Edwards, and Hugh Futcher are in supporting roles.

Why we’re excited about Tuesday

Well, it’s different. And it’s an A24 joint, an outfit who have pretty good form for spinning unusual concepts into cinematic gold. Reviews thus far are broadly positive, with pretty much all of them singling out Julia Louis-Dreyfuss’s emotionally raw performance. Plus, a macaw as Death makes a nice change of pace from the usual pale and bony incarnations we get on screen.
