New to NZ Cinemas – ‘Peregrine’, Hitchcock, Kubrick’s ‘2001’ & More

There’s heaps on in cinemas this week, including Tim Burton’s X-Men-ish fantasy film, a classic Western remade, an examination into Hitchcock’s filmmaking craft, and a futuristic vision into distant year of 2001.

Tim Burton adapts the bestselling novel by Ransom Riggs about a seemingly ordinary boy who comes across a home for unusually gifted children, ran by the enigmatic Miss Peregrine (Eva Green, Dark Shadows). Co-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Chris O’Dowd, Terence Stamp and Dame Judi Dench.

The Magnificent Seven | Find movie times near you

Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt make two of the seven in this remake of the classic 1960s Western from director Antoine Fuqua (Training Day). Co-stars Ethan Hawke (Boyhood), Vincent D’Onofrio (TV’s Daredevil), Byund-hun Lee (I Saw the Devil), and Peter Sarsgaard (Experimenter).

OK… we’re not actually calling last year’s Spielberg spy drama a classic just yet, but it’s a damn fine film that didn’t do much at the Box Office. It’s well worth a watch on the big screen.
