New Zealand trailer and release date for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – Season 4
The final season of the awkwardly titled High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is almost upon us! Music-minded mavens can catch all eight episodes of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season when it exclusively on Disney+ from August 9.
The High School Musical franchise is a vast, sprawling, many-tentacled thing, replete with movies, stage musicals, international spin-offs, and lord knows what else. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series differentiates itself from its predecessors by being filmed in a mockumentary style. It’s actually a kind of meta-narrative, being set at East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, the real-world school where the original High School Musical movies were shot. It initially followed drama teacher Miss Jenn (Kate Reinders) as she mounted a school production of High School Musical: The Musical, and since then has tracked the lives and aspirations of its young and art ensemble.
Season four sees the Wildcats theatre troupe head into their senior year and staging a production of High School Musical 3. Most of your old faves are returning, including Joshua Bassett as Ricky, Sofia Wylie as Gina, Dara Reneé as Kourtney, Frankie A. Rodriguez as Carlos, Julia Lester as Ashlyn, Joe Serafini as Sebastian, and Liamani Segura as Emmy. New additions to the cast include Gabby Duran & The Unsittables’ Kylie Cantrall and Doogie Kamealoha M.D. star Matthew Sato.
The real juice for OG fans, however, is the news that original High School Musical stars Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Bart Johnson, Alyson Reed, and KayCee Stroh are in this season, playing fictionalised versions of themselves. No word if breakout star Olivia Rodrigo, who departed in season three, will be putting in an appearance, though.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is sure to face the final curtain with aplomb. Will you be in the audience?
