News: Make My Horror Movie winner announced, ‘Star Wars’ saga hits NZ cinemas and more
Make My Horror Movie has shown the ultimate display of love this Valentine’s Day by awarding Weta Digital’s Jason Lei Howden the $200,000 prize for his winning horror film concept Deathgasm.
Howden’s concept is one part splatter-horror, one part black comedy, one part demonic and completely death metal. As the pitch reads, the film is about “two heavy metal-thrashing losers who have to find their inner strength to stop a malevolent force which they inadvertently unleashed.”

Loading Docs Needs You
Loading Docs is a trailblazing new initiative designed to give the best and brightest New Zealand documentary filmmakers the chance to tell unique stories with creativity, vision and passion and share them with the world.
In order to do that, they need your input.
This year Loading Docs will fund, create and distribute a selection of 3-minute New Zealand documentaries that show our home, Aotearoa, as it’s never been seen before.
Before filmmaking can begin, each of the filmmakers has been set a challenge – they must raise $2,000 on New Zealand crowdfunding site PledgeMe, which will be then matched by $2,500 funding from Loading Docs and a post-production package.
For these films to be a success we need you to get online and get involved! Start engaging with the stories now – like them, share them, show your support on pledge me and help get these films made. They are after all, stories of your home, New Zealand, so get active and become part of the story now.
All the projects are on the Loading Docs website, and represent a vast array of local documentary making talent and an eclectic range of subjects.
So get on board and show your support for one or all of these unique documentaries!
