NZ’s ‘Breaking Bad’ theatrical run starts this Saturday in Auckland

Director Tim Tsiklauri and Producer Nicola Peeperkoorn with 'Breaking Bad' creator Vince Gilligan

Deemed too controversial for conventional cinemas, independent Kiwi black comedy Crackheads will premiere at The Maidment Theatre this Saturday November 16, kicking off its limited cinema run. Labelled as “a Kiwi Breaking Bad meets The Hangover,” the Sony-supported film will get four more screenings at The Maidment: Thursday November 21, Thursday November 28, Thursday December 5 and Friday December 6.

You can grab tickets now at The Maidment Theatre website.

Crackheads is a New Zealand-set crime comedy from first-time feature director Tim Tsikaluri about four mates who each succumb to addiction after a worried parishioner dumps them with a bag of crack. When the drug takes hold, the murky past of a slightly racist Catholic Priest emerges, taking an OCD psychologist, an out-of-work Indian actor and a sex-obsessed used car salesman on a psychedelic trip through substance abuse.

Crackheads has played to acclaim at two high profile international festivals, Oaxaca and Austin (where they met with the creator of Breaking Bad Vince Gilligan).  The film will also be screening at the LA Comedy Festival on the same date and has other international engagements to come. The filmmakers are excited to be bringing their well-received film home to local audiences.
