Russian Resurrection Film Festival Hits NZ Next Week
The 16th annual Russian Resurrection Film Festival – to be held in Auckland’s Rialto Cinema from October 25th to 30th – is almost here.
From contemporary comedies and psychological thrillers to love stories set in the picturesque mountains of Armenia and against the backdrop of the Tsar’s last days, the Russian Resurrection Film Festival will take audiences on a journey through one of the world’s most diverse and exhilarating film cultures.

Tuesday 25 October Opening
8.15pm Flight Crew – Remake of the 1979 blockbuster disaster film that proved a smash hit at the 2016 Russian box office.
Wednesday 26 October
6.30pm Moscow Never Sleeps – Both a love letter and an issued challenge to Moscow’s culture, this feature ties multiple stories to say something larger about the city.
8.30pm Heritage of Love – A romance that starts during the Russian Revolution that sees two lovers cruelly separated, only to find each other again a century later.
Thursday 27 October
6.30pm No Borders – Romantic comedy that observes the nature of love via a number of different stories.
8.30pm Indemnity – Agatha Christie-style mystery set in 1918 Perm Russia, following the search for an absurdly expensive diamond that has vanished.
Friday 28 October
6.15pm Very Best Day – Comedy following a man on track to marry his super-keen girlfriend, until a celeb takes an interest in him…
8.30pm Queen of Spades – Urban legend horror about an entity that can only be summoned by drawing a door and staircase on a mirror and saying its name three times.
Saturday 29 October
2.30pm All that Jam – A woman goes from escaping a dishonest boyfriend to rehearsing her gran’s own funeral to dealing with an American movie star in this comedy.
4.20pm The Green Carriage – A family man whose family die suddenly refuses to believe it was an accident, carrying out his on investigation into what really happened.
6.15pm The Student – Drama following a religious teen who triggers a meltdown when he makes his own interpretations of the Bible.
8.40pm The Duelist – A gun-for-hire fights other men’s one-on-one duels in this gorgeously-shot period piece thriller.
Sunday 30 October
2.30pm Ivan The Terrible – Parts 1 & 2 of the 1944 Russian relics of cinema, made for Stalin who had a great fondness for Ivan.
5.55pm The Good Boy – Crowd-pleasing teen comedy following a lad and six of the most incredible days in his young life.
7.50pm House for Rent – Several families are forced to share a seaside cottage during their holidays.
