David Corenswet is Clark Kent/Superman, the last son of Krypton, the Man of Tomorrow, the last survivor of an alien race rocketed to earth…you know the drill. Rachel Brosnahan is Lois Lane, in one of the most perfect pieces of casting we have ever seen; Nicholas Hoult is Lex Luthor, arch nemesis and slaphead; Edi Gathegi is super inventor Mister Terrific; Anthony Carrigan is the disfigured transforming hero Metamorpho; Nathan Fillion is arrogant prick Green Lantern Guy Gardner, another spot-on choice; Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl; Skyler Gisondo is Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría is The Engineer, and you’ve gotta be a pretty deep in the nerd weeds to know who that is, but we don’t have the space; Wendell Pierce is Daily Planet editor Perry White; Pruitt Taylor Vince and Neva Howell are Jonathan and Martha Kent, Supes’ Earth parents; and Alan Tudyk is in there somewhere. Plus some adorable mutt is playing Krypto the Superdog.

The secret to James Gunn is that when you look past the dick and fart jokes and (admittedly killer) needle drops, he’s got a big, soft heart. His movies are almost always about people trying to the right thing in a corrupt and uncaring world. He might just be the best possible director for a new take on the world’s greatest superhero, and we cannot wait.
