Travel the world in 8 days with Wellington’s school holiday cinema series
There’s a new film series kicking off these school holidays in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, bringing some of the world’s best family experiences to the big screen.
On October 1st, the Square Eyes Film Foundation launches Around the World in 8 Days, a cinema experience for the whole whānau, sharing films from Aotearoa, Africa, Japan, Ireland, Mongolia, and beyond, along with some free post-screening activities, every day at the Embassy Theatre, from Saturday, 1 October to Saturday to 8 October.
Highlights include A24’s Marcel the Shell With Shoes On, one of Flicks’ faves from NZIFF 2022, and Wolfwalkers, Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar-nominated fantasy adventure which never saw a cinema release in New Zealand.
The line-up also includes beloved classics, like Studio Ghibli’s Ponyo and a 20th-anniversary screening of Whale Rider, and hidden gems, like French stop-motion tale My Life as a Courgette and Mongolian true story The Eagle Huntress.
Rounding out this eight-day experience are select screenings of short films and television favourites, along with a stop-motion workshop for kids aged nine and up.
