Turns out, Olivia Wilde’s one hell of a comedy director & her debut is coming to NZ
Olivia Wilde—perhaps best known for her performances in Oscar winner Her, indie darling Drinking Buddies, and… erm… Tron: Legacy—makes her directorial debut with end-of-high-school comedy Booksmart. According to critics and crowds who saw it as SXSW, it’s bloody hilarious, and it’s coming to Aotearoa.
The film follows two pals, played by Beanie Feldstein (Lady Bird) and Kaitlyn Dever (Short Term 12), who seek to become trendy rulebreakers believing it’ll help them survive college. Lisa Kudrow, Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte co-star.
Here’s what the critics are saying:
“The best comedy of its kind since Superbad” -IndieWire
“A hilarious, blazingly paced teen comedy.” -Hollywood Reporter
“Feldstein and Dever are a phenomenal comedy duo. And Wilde crushed it right out the gate.” -IGN
“It feels fresh, a film that will be rewatched and quoted” -The Guardian
“Something just shy of a sensational masterpiece and miracle.” -The Playlist
The film comes to New Zealand cinemas August 8. Check out the red-band trailer:
