Whiplash
7.30pm Saturday 20th August, Arthur’s Cinema Cromwell, Otago
One of the greatest films of 2014 returns for a one-off screening in Arthur’s Cinema Cromwell. “As a stress-inducing exercise in cinematic asphyxiation, Whiplash is this year’s Gravity.” – Liam Maguren, FLICKS

Clueless
6.30pm Wednesday 24th August, Academy Cinemas, Auckland
Academy Cinemas is holding a one-off screening of the ’90s comedy classic. In March’s list of #52FilmsByWomen, Liam said: “If Shakespeare was a self-aware sorority girl, she would have written Clueless. (Yeah, I just compared Amy Heckerling to Shakespeare, and I’ll etch that statement on the urn that holds my dead ashes.)”

My Fair Lady

The classic, multi Oscar-winning, Broadway adaptation sees its return to certain NZ cinemas.

Korean “Snowpiercer with zombies” that impressed our man Aaron Yap, set almost entirely on a train where the passengers have to fight off the undead inside the speeding steel trap.

Sour Grapes

UK crime documentary about a wine counterfeiter and the havoc he reigned upon circles of vintage wine collectors. Variety calls it a “highly entertaining stranger-than-fiction saga.”

New Zealand International Film Festival
Let’s not forget that the NZIFF is still making people happy in numerous regions of New Zealand, with a few still eagerly awaiting their fest. It just started in Hamilton, Palmerston North and Tauranga with some bloody stellar films lined up like Midnight Special, Everybody Wants Some!!, Weiner and plenty more.
