This culinary doco about an 85-year-old sushi legend will either leave you insatiably hungry or wondering why you don’t put as much effort into your work. Probably both.

Tom Who? The Enigma of Tom Kreisler

Govett-Brewster Art Gallery (Taranaki) – 4:00pm Saturday 11 June

Documentary portrait on 20th-century New Zealand painter Tom Kreisler, following his life and his art – both of which were influenced by Mexican traditions and the Pop Art movement.

Vigil

In the same cinema the following day is the cherished Kiwi feature from Vincent Ward, which was the first New Zealand film to be in official competition at the uber prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 1984.

The Price of Peace

Anzac Theatre (Northland) – 3:30pm Sunday June 12

New Zealand investigative documentary on the ‘Urewera Four’, the 2007 criminal case where Tūhoe activist Tame Iti and three others were accused of plotting terrorist activities after an alleged paramilitary training camp was discovered by police in the Urewera.
