VF48Hours: it’s here, it’s free, and it’s in lockdown

The Vista Foundation 48Hours filmmaking challenge is back – and with a twist.

Every year, pros and newbies alike participate in the Vista Foundation 48Hours Filmmaking Competition where they are given the weekend to write, shoot, edit, and hand in a short film based on a genre and random elements given to them on the Friday night. And Covid-19 isn’t going to stop this beloved tradition.

This year, filmmakers are challenged to make a 1-3 minute short film during lockdown. You can still participate with mates in one big team, but you must stay in your respective bubbles.

And here’s the best news: registration is absolutely FREE this year (register here). Second best news: you won’t have to wait that long either, as the comp starts this Friday night (17 April) from 7:00pm and ends Sunday (19 April) at 7:00pm (more info here).

Here’s more from the press release:

“The competition was created around the idea of restrictions and right now we are all living through one of the biggest restrictions ever imposed on us. Fortunately for those feeling the creative itch, we have devised a mini-filmmaking challenge for you and it is on this weekend!

“The Vista Foundation 48Hours has a dedicated creative community and community is what people can use right now.

“Teams or solo filmmakers will have 48 hours to write, shoot, cut and deliver a film up to 3 minutes long. It must be made with strict adherence to the Covid-19 restrictions and include elements that we will announce at the online launch on our Facebook page and then our website.

“In the lead up to the finals, the Spinoff will select and profile seven films, including some behind the scenes material and the filmmaking teams behind them.

“The top films will be screened on Primetime TV2 for an hour finals show and the top film will be awarded the top prize of NZ$5,000.”
