If you were a teenage boy back in 2002, we have some great news for you. xXx 3 will start shooting in December with Vin Diesel in the lead role. This will turn the action franchise into a trilogy that started with xXx over a decade ago followed by xXx 2: The Next Level which starred Ice Cube.
This is all according to Diesel’s Instagram, which counts as a journalistic source, right? (We can’t tell anymore.)
Funny thing is, Vin Diesel’s character Xander Cage is technically dead. There’s even an official 4-min. short film that looked to connect xXx with xXx 2, leaving little doubt to the fact that they were very serious about killing Cage off – even though the short was too cheap to get Diesel back.
You can watch the short below, albeit without sound for some weird copyright reasons. There’s a low-quality version with the audio track here, but it’s way more entertainingly awkward watching it muted. (How long does he make out with that girl’s neck!?)
Perhaps the third film will simply ignore this short’s existence. Or maybe they’ll explain how Xander survived the explosion without the back of his head.
