When will Zootopia 2 be released in New Zealand?

Anthropomorphic animal buddy cop comedy Zootopia proved to be a smash hit for Disney, pulling in a whisker over one billion at the global box office back in 2016 and presaging, perhaps inevitably, a sequel, albeit almost a decade later. It’s okay; cartoons don’t age. Except The Simpsons, which is looking tired AF.
When will Zootopia 2 be released in New Zealand?
Zootopia 2 careens into New Zealand cinemas like a high speed car chase on November 26, 2025.
What is Zootopia 2 about?
Following on from the events of the first film, fast-talking smooth criminal Nick Wilde (he’s a fox) and by-the-book straight arrow Judy Hopps (she’s a rabbit) are partners, him having joined the force in the gap between movies (together, they fight crime).
This time out they’re chasing a wily reptile by the name of Gary De’Snake, who hangs his—uh… well, yeah, I guess snakes can wear hats—hat in the district of Zootopia known as Marsh Markets. That’s all we know, but expect more fun cops ‘n’ robbers action, more sharp banter, hopefully less confused racial politics, and a sequel more in line with, say, Lethal Weapon 2 than Another 48 Hours.
The cast of Zootopia 2
Returning we have Jason Bateman as Nick Wolfe; Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps; and Shakira as pop star Gazelle. New to the menagerie are Ke Huy Quan, making that Oscar win work for him as Gary De’Snake; Fortune Feimster as Nibbles, a beaver living in Marsh Market; and Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby, a quokka who is our bickering heroes’ counsellor.

Why we’re excited about Zootopia 2
I mean, why not, hey? You can wring a lot out of the “buddy cops but they’re literal animals” thing, so we’re keen to see where this one goes next.
