It was kind of a relief when the ol’ webhead didn’t get an origin story in the MCU, don’t you think? After all, we’d just had two for him in the last couple of live action film series. Well, this upcoming animated series aims to correct that.

What is Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man about?

Well, apart from the glaringly obvious, the series charts Spider-Man’s early adventures in his costumed crime-fighting identity. So yes, this is the Tom Holland Spider-Man, except it’s technically set in an alternate timeline, both to allow the creative team to tell the stories they want to tell, and because Marvel just can’t help themselves, can they? And apart from whatever changes are yet to be revealed, it seems that in this universe, Peter Parker’s mentor isn’t affable alcoholic billionaire Tony Stark, it’s…future Green Goblin Norman Osborne!? Yikes!

The cast of Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man

Hudson Thames is Peter Parker/Spider-Man, having already voiced the character in the equally transdimensional What If..? series; Colman Domingo is Norman Osborn, CEO of Oscorp who is Parker’s mentor and, in all likelihood, future arch nemesis; Eugene Byrd is Lonnie Lincoln: Pete’s classmate; Grace Song is Nico Minoru: Parker’s school friend, who may sound familiar to fans of Runaways; Zeno Robinson is Harry Osborn, Norman’s son and Pete’s bestie; Hugh Dancy is Otto Octavius; Charlie Cox is Matt Murdoc, a blind and obvioussly harmless lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen; Kari Wahlgren is Aunt May; and Paul F. Tompkins is Bentley Wittman. You should chuck a few of thise unfamilar names into Google if you like, but no spoilers from us.
